What is CPS?

CPS means clicks per second: total clicks divided by seconds. Timing uses performance.now() for accuracy. Warm up your hand, keep your wrist steady, and use a mouse you trust — device and browser latency affect every score.

CPS benchmarks by clicking style

  • 3–5 CPSCasual clicking — one relaxed finger.
  • 5–7 CPSAverage — what most people manage on a first try.
  • 7–9 CPSFast — practiced regular or jitter clicking.
  • 9–12 CPSVery fast — butterfly clicking territory.
  • 12+ CPSElite — drag clicking or exceptional butterfly speed.

How to click faster safely

  1. Warm up with an easy 5-second round before going for records.
  2. Keep the wrist planted and move only the finger — arm movement wastes energy.
  3. Use a mouse with light switches; heavy office buttons cap your speed.
  4. Breathe normally and stop if your hand cramps — strain injuries are not worth a record.
  5. Longer 30-second runs reward pacing; save all-out bursts for the 5-second mode.

FAQ

Click speed FAQ

What is a good CPS score?

Most people click 5–7 times per second. Above 8 CPS is fast, and sustained scores over 10 CPS are elite butterfly or drag-click territory.

Does mouse or trackpad matter?

Yes. A responsive mouse with light switches helps. Trackpads are slower, and results vary with device, browser and input latency.

How is CPS calculated?

CPS is total clicks divided by the test duration in seconds. Peak CPS is the highest click count inside any rolling one-second window.

Which duration shows my real speed?

Five seconds measures burst speed, ten seconds balances speed and control, and thirty seconds tests stamina — most records are set at 5 seconds.

Can clicking too fast damage my mouse?

Normal clicking is harmless, but aggressive jitter or drag clicking wears switches faster. Warm up first and stop if anything hurts.

How is this different from the CPS test page?

Both measure clicking speed, but they keep separate records: this page is the 5-second sprint benchmark, while the CPS test page tracks 5, 10 and 30 second runs with peak-burst analysis. Play both — your history stores each best separately.
