What the five stages reveal

A mouse can fail in five independent ways, so this test isolates each one. Accuracy exposes sensor and eyesight issues; double-click speed exposes switch wear (a dying Omron switch bounces and ruins fast double-clicks); the target sprint measures sustained hand speed; reaction clicking separates decision speed from aim; precision catches jittery surfaces and dirty sensors. If one stage scores far below the others, you have found your specific weakness — or a hardware fault worth fixing with a clean mousepad and fresh batteries.

How the 500-point score works

Each stage awards up to 100 points against calibrated scales: misses cost 10 points on accuracy, double-click gaps are scored against a 60 ms reference, sprint hits earn 8 points each, reaction averages are scored from a 180 ms baseline, and precision is scored from average pixel error. Above 400 is a healthy setup with a practiced hand; below 250 usually means hardware trouble, an awkward grip, or a sensitivity setting fighting you.

FAQ

Mouse test FAQ

What does the mouse test check?

Five mini-tests: click accuracy on targets, double-click speed, 10-second target sprint, 3-round reaction clicking, and precision on a tiny dot.

How is the final score calculated?

Each mini-test awards up to 100 points (accuracy, speed and precision weighted equally) for a total out of 500.

Why test double-click speed?

It reveals switch quality and finger speed separately from aiming — useful for diagnosing an aging or faulty mouse.

My precision score is terrible but accuracy is fine — why?

Large targets forgive sensor noise; the 18-pixel dot does not. Clean the sensor, change the mousepad surface, or lower sensitivity slightly.

What score means my mouse is faulty?

No single number proves it, but double-click gaps over 300 ms with a healthy hand, or precision errors that never improve, strongly suggest worn switches or a bad sensor.
